Travel to Bhutan

Usually coming to Bhutan the tourists arrive to Phuntsholing, the gateway of the country, located at the base of Himalayan foothills. Phuntsholing is Bhutan's commercial center holding most of commercial organizations. Just an hour drive and you are near Kharbandi Gompa – one of the most beautiful monasteries in Bhutan. It is surrounded by wonderful garden of tropical plants and flowers. Nature is accorded the highest respect; nearly a third of the country is designated as national parkland, logging and fishing are strictly regulated. But do not let this fact prevent you from enjoying the superb view of the Brahmaputra plains and the Toorsa river. Before entering Thimphu city, make a visit to Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress of the kingdom built in the 17th century, which now houses the School for Buddhist studies. And at last you are in Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. One of the must-visits is Tashichho Dzong, the most impressive building and the home of National Assembly, summer residence of Chief of monk body. Town's another landmark is Memorial Chorten, built in the memory of the Late King, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, regarded as Father of modern Bhutan.

Take a glimpse at the eastern Himalayan range. Punakha is the central spot of this region, it served as the capital of Bhutan until 1955. It draws the tourists by Punakha Dzong, which plays prominent role in civil and religious life of the Kingdom. Wangdi Dzong is the most visible feature of Wangdiphodrang, a typical small Bhutanese town. Paro is a home to some of Bhutan's oldest temples, monasteries, the National Museum and country's only airport. The nearby Taktshang Monastery, which hangs off a cliff, is the most famous monastery in Bhutan. The region of Bumthang is also considered to be very spiritual as it is characterized by undisturbed traditional Tibetan-style culture. This region is home to many monasteries. Wherever you go, whatever you do in Bhutan, the scenery will be impressive and outstanding, people – polite and hospitable, culture – interesting and welcoming. But the main reason of the trip to Bhutan is that the country offers an opportunity to glimpse another way of living, an alternative vision of what is truly important in life.
